Looks like a good solid week to get your legs back. Does the SF still bother you? Even though I could run after 6 months, mine hurt for about 2 years before I didn't notice it at all any more.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Feb 02, 2015 at 10:50:18 from 192.150.9.200

Yes, I can still feel the SF. It's no where near the same kind of feeling. It was pretty painful when it was diagnosed. I've been doing some leg strengthening to help it out. I was diagnosed the last week of July, so it has been 6 months for me so far.

From Rhett on Fri, Feb 06, 2015 at 10:49:37 from 24.121.0.8

Looks like I'm your blog follower, and I demand more blogs. :) How's the running going this week?

From lewiskyle on Fri, Feb 06, 2015 at 11:29:05 from 192.150.9.200

Haha. Going well. Slowly ramping up the miles, and the leg is responding well. Which is a great sign after 6 months of dealing with it. Taking today off from running because I'm doing a cycling test for my HR zones and wattage output, but will be back running tomorrow, followed by a long comfortable ride on the bike.

Wow. I'm glad that's over. With the new baby in the house, continuous sleep has been very hard to come by. Last night was no different. Other kids were sick during the night as well. I just wanted to get these base miles in, even if they were slow.

Feeling a lot of soreness. Trying to work out the lactic acid, but man that was brutal.

Also doesn't help that it was snowing while I was running.

With the new baby and all, I'm surprised you're getting in any miles. My race is tomorrow. I strained my calf on my very first easy run of my taper a week and a half ago. I'm hoping it holds up for 26.2.

From lewiskyle on Fri, Feb 27, 2015 at 09:22:10 from 192.150.9.200

Oh man, that sucks. In 2012 I felt some runners knee setting in on my last long run before St George. It held up, but I was much slower than I wanted to be and it was pretty painful.

You going to get it treated? I hope that it holds up. What time are you shooting for?

From Rhett on Fri, Feb 27, 2015 at 11:12:46 from 24.121.0.8

I have it KT taped up as good as possible. Aside from that, the only treatment it needs is rest. All my training pointed to 3 hours, but I haven't run for almost 2 weeks now. I guess I'll get started tomorrow and see how I feel. If it feels decent, I may still shoot for 3 hours.

It just happened last Saturday. It was fun. Finished close to where I anticipated I would. The run was brutal. It was over 90 degrees and there was tons of climbing. My swim was strong (about 1:48 pace), my bike was weak, and the run I was just fighting to get through. Great experience though.

Since you're training in the canyon anyways, you should do UVM.

From lewiskyle on Sun, May 17, 2015 at 12:16:59 from 192.150.10.207

Are you running UVM? Some of the guys I run with are running it. Most of us are training for St George.

From Rhett on Sun, May 17, 2015 at 16:53:09 from 199.117.154.54

Yep. I signed up for UVM after I had to DNF Phoenix.

What's up cuz? How's the training going?

From lewiskyle on Mon, Jun 08, 2015 at 10:03:05 from 192.150.9.200

Going well. I got hooked up with a tri coach a few weeks back to focus on getting better at triathlons and to get myself prepared for Ironman Arizona. He thinks I'm pretty strong as a runner, so my running workouts are pretty focused. There's still a ton of improvement for me on the bike and in the water.

I'm still running the St George Marathon, so we'll see how all my training translates into a big running race like that.

What day is the Utah Valley marathon? I'm going to try to come down and watch.

From Rhett on Mon, Jun 08, 2015 at 10:32:37 from 24.121.249.174

That is cool that you have a tri coach. I'd be interested in what he has you doing. From my own experience, I'll bet you PR SGM with all the tri training. UVM is this Saturday. I re-aggrivated my calf a few weeks ago and missed what would have been my last two weeks of high volume running before starting my taper, so I'll probably shoot for a 3:10 to 3:15 instead of my normal sub 3. I think the calf is close to 100% at least so I should finish...I hope.

How slow did you have to go to keep your HR under 134? That is an interesting workout. What's the theory behind that? I gimped my way through UVM and BQ'd barely.

From lewiskyle on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 20:24:59 from 204.15.84.2

It was about 8:30 pace. Keeping my HR down is meant for body durability to allow recovery while still being active.

Congrats on the BQ time! How did your calf hold up?

From Rhett on Mon, Jun 15, 2015 at 17:52:49 from 199.117.154.54

Thanks. My calf started bothering me about 6 miles into the race and seemed to be on the verge of doing what it did in Phoenix around the 11 mile mark, but then a little after halfway it calmed down a bit and didn't start bothering me too much again until the last couple miles. Luckily it never seized up on me.

Under 130 has got to be painfully slow for you. I've been doing the Meffatone training lately where for my age I have to keep my HR under 141 and it is so slow. Being younger than me, on my plan you would get to have your HR faster than mine. That's got to take discipline to keep it at 130.

From lewiskyle on Wed, Jul 29, 2015 at 20:45:40 from 69.169.137.238

Coming along nicely. Have sort of transitioned my training to work for an Ironman completion and to have success in the Oly and half distances. I'm making great improvements with my training. Good thing, because I have some races coming up soon.

How goes training for you? I got to see your family last week. Had dinner on the 24th at Tonja's house. Your wife and all your kids were there. It was great seeing them.

From lewiskyle on Wed, Aug 12, 2015 at 15:59:48 from 192.150.9.201

Olympic. The reservoir we were supposed to swim in had some algae issues, so we weren't allowed to swim in it. We swam in a rec center, and only did 400m. Then the bike was extended a few miles and the run about a quarter mile. It was fun. Only bummer was the cop who led me off course for a little over 9 min.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Aug 31, 2015 at 12:20:06 from 192.150.9.200

Total time of 4:48. Bike wasn't quite as fast as I'd wanted it to be, but I am getting faster, on the bike, on every race.

From Rhett on Mon, Aug 31, 2015 at 14:19:54 from 199.117.154.54

That is a great time! With that kind of fitness you'll probably run a sub 3 at SGM.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Aug 31, 2015 at 14:22:44 from 192.150.9.201

Ya, I'm very interested in what kind of time I'm going to put up in St George considering my fitness level is high, but hasn't been specific to running.

From Rhett on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 11:39:44 from 24.121.249.174

I hear you had another speedy race this past weekend. Congrats. How are you feeling about SGM coming up? It's a fast fun course. You will probably smoke it.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 11:44:14 from 192.150.9.201

Not quite sure how I'll be approaching it. Since it's six weeks out from IMAZ, my coach will probably have me treat it like a long training run vs a race. i'm mentally debating if I want to just crank it out for 3 hours and see if I can qualify for Boston. Always been a dream/goal of mine to run that race.

As for the Oly tri last weekend, it went very well. Went sub-40 on the 10K. I felt good going into it. 1st age group, 4th overall.

From Rhett on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 11:50:44 from 24.121.249.174

Very cool. How old are you? You probably only need a 3:10 to BQ. I'm trying to help a buddy BQ. Hopefully he will soon and we will go back to Boston in 2017.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 11:54:21 from 192.150.9.200

Yep, 35. And that is exactly correct on the time.

From Rhett on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 11:59:54 from 24.121.249.174

Well you should be able to do 3:10 like a long training run with no problem, especially on that course. Have fun and stay healthy. You're rocking it.

From lewiskyle on Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 12:17:23 from 192.150.9.201

Let's hope it's that easy :)

From Rhett on Wed, Sep 30, 2015 at 10:21:19 from 24.121.249.174

How are you feeling for SGM? Have you set a time goal or just running by feel? Good luck. It's a fun, fast course.

From Rhett on Thu, Oct 22, 2015 at 12:39:28 from 24.121.249.174

Hey Kyle. You never said how you liked SGM???? How's the IM training going?

From lewiskyle on Sun, Oct 25, 2015 at 07:58:29 from 204.15.84.2

I took a pretty conservative approach to it. My coach reminded me that I had to have a big training day the following Monday, so I couldn't overdue it. I ended up with a 3:16 overall time. I had a lot left in the tank considering I put the last three miles under 7 min pace. I felt great at the end of the race.

From Rhett on Wed, Oct 28, 2015 at 15:31:48 from 24.121.249.174

I bet that was fun running so fast at the end of the marathon, passing a ton of people, and feeling good. What is the date of your IM? Good luck!

From Rhett on Wed, Nov 11, 2015 at 10:39:06 from 24.121.249.174

Your big race is right around the corner! I hope you're feeling good. Good luck. I did my half IM last weekend. It was a really windy day making the bike tough, but I got 9th overall so was pretty excited about that.

From lewiskyle on Wed, Nov 11, 2015 at 10:41:34 from 192.150.9.200

Yep. I'm heading down to St George today. Then driving the rest tomorrow. I'm freaking out a bit. Trying not to overthink it.

Congrats on the half time! 9th overall is fantastic.
